that is hilarious! video gamers! wait till the jack booted thugs kick in the door and kill a kid. iRead More wonder if these types of police are needed in this day and age. the real danger is the police, the video gamers are lost in the digital age and enjoy a good prank. most of you people are afraid to live, these cops are locked and loaded and looking for a shoot out. police procedure needs to be re-examined. bearing false witness......

Both the jackass players should be fined. these are the same kids that shoot up the schools whenRead More they're bored with fantasy. The beach is right down the block and your lazy fat ass kid sits on the couch all day gaming. pathetic.
The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld Michigan's ban on affirmative action in college admissions.
Porter gladstone April 23, 2014 at 10:47 am
mob mentality. people on this thread dont even understand the ruling. tt, the comparison toRead More sports is absurd. baseball 8% black. hockey? swimming? etc. i dont hear complaints by minority leaders complaing about every facet of life. there is a belief that low test scores , a dearth of black ceo's , etc must be explained by some measure of systemic discrimination. women do it. minorities. heck go to any youth sports program and youll find parents complaing about playing time and favoritism. people complain. sometimes theyre right.

College admission should be based on scholastic achievement, period.
Observor April 23, 2014 at 11:03 am
One of the primary reasons blacks lag in admission to elite colleges without affirmative action isRead More that a disproportionate number of them come out of horror show urban school systems where they are trapped by an unholy alliance of the teacher unions and the Democrat party. The DTC keeps the unions working regardless of incompetence and in return the unions bankroll the DTC with their members' dues money. Affirmative action is just a way to paper over that "inconvenient truth."

David you are correct and I stand with you on this issue. I moved to Georgia from Massachusetts andRead More was living in Massacusetts when the State Supreme court ruled in favor of gay marriage. This is the typical MO of the gay rights movement in that they do not want to debate, but rather go to the courts in order to force through their agenda. Marriage is between a man and woman, period! Not only is this stated in the Old Testament but numerous times in the New Testament as well. The individual who referred to himself as a gay christian is simply wrong. You cannot willfully disobey God's law and still consider yourself a follower of Jesus Christ. As a follower of Christ we are not perfect, but are always striving to do so. As for the Constitution, there is no definition of marriage because this is a moral issue and that the Constitution was written for a moral and God fearing people.
Mike April 23, 2014 at 10:51 am
There is no debate to be had after 3/4's of the country writes discrimination into their stateRead More constitution. There is no debate when the debate is between people who live in reality are to debate people who pull all of their points from a book of fables. The time for debate is over. This is going to go down in the same fashion that bigotry against black people went down; that is with a SCOTUS ruling that says you, nor anybody, has the right to dictate your religious dogma to the population at large. Marriage equality will be the law of the land in this country before your and my time on the earth is over and the people who are standing against it on religious grounds will be seen, rightly, by history to be equatable with the people who were against mixed race marriage and the people who were against civil rights for black people. Your forefathers used religion to justify bigotry against the last two people's mentioned here and you're using the same religion to justify bigotry against gay people. It's a shame really.... this entire "debate" is one side standing up for their rights, enshrined in the constitution and the other side is butt hurt because somebody moved their cheese.
jMichael April 23, 2014 at 11:05 am
Chris P: 1: please cite the "Old Testament" passage that explicitly defines marriage asRead More exclusively man+woman. 2: please cite a minimum of three passages in the 'new testament' that do the same. 3: please tell us why Scripture has any bearing wharsoever on the rights of a U.S. Citizen. 4: please cite the passage in the U.S. comstitution which explicitely outlaws sin. 5: Finally, please defnd your implicit suggestion that appeals to the courts are a) absent of robust debate, and b) an inappropriate mechanism for advancing the rights to which U.S. Citizens believe they are entitled. ... ... ... We eagerly await your responses to these challenges.
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.

I could give you the requirements for an International Baccalaureate, which is offered at BiotechRead More and a few select HS's in NJ, but it is not really on point, and your fingers can google just as easily as mine. The IB is only for the highest level students. It would not be appropriate to make it the default for all students.
Jennifer April 23, 2014 at 11:17 am
..and just a thought, but even though the CC standards "require" critical thinking skills,Read More it does not mean that the curricula developed by the textbook publishers without input from child development experts will succeed in imparting these skills. I can SAY I require good nutrition in my (imaginary) school lunch room, and that all children will leave adequately nourished, but you won't find out for 12 years if your kids have gotten adequate nutrition in my school lunchroom, because every year I change my mind on how to measure it.

First, every generation thinks that how they learned was better than the next generation. My motherRead More detested New Math. The mantra of New Math was, "We want kids to understand why an answer is correct." My mother used to say that they didn't care in her consolidated school why 2+2=4. That was simply the answer. I hated New Math, but it seems to me that it wasn't as complex as Common Core math. Second, the common refrain is how poorly American students do on various subjects, especially math and science. Yet, the countries that do well tend to me much smaller and much less diverse. I don't think it's an apples-to-apples comparison, when you compare American math aptitude to how students in Singapore perform, or how U.S. kids do in science compared to kids in Finland. Third, there are still plenty of jobs that don't require advanced math and science. Yet, it seems that there is more focus on math and science and less on subjects like history, creative writing, and persuasive writing. Often, down the road, a person has to persuade his boss about a course of action. If he can't write a memo that is clear, concise, easy to read, and persuasive, it won't matter one bit that he can perform complex trigonomic equations or understand the theories of Newton.

Netflix is hands down the best deal going, and it has been a bargain for YEARS. I guess theRead More nonsensical whiners who complain about a long-delayed, $2 a MONTH increase are worried it will cost them a (partial) SINGLE LATTE. Utterly ridiculous.
Gregg L. DesElms April 23, 2014 at 10:36 am
TO MICHAEL BRENNICK: Leftist, Democra... WHAT? You think Comcast is part of the so-calledRead More "liberal" media (which, by the way, doesn't even exist)? Are you freakin' KIDDIN' me? I have to agree with annon ymous. How can anyone harm a child and when its your own and you do thatRead More type of harm to your own child. Jail - 20 years that's a joke - that's play time for someone like that!
Deb April 22, 2014 at 12:36 pm
I call a spade a spade Laura. That's the problem. People are so afraid of "judgement".Read More Let's not hurt anyone's "feelings". Believe me. This had been going on probably most of the child's life and I'm sure someone was aware of it but they didn't want to "judge" so they did nothing. And yes, I'm darn near perfect compared to this piece of manure.

Dorie, stowing away on a plane is a crime. And no, the boy himself did not pose a threat. But theRead More fact that he (anyone) can get that close to a plane poses a threat. I have to take off my flippin' shoes and get patted down, but apparently you can just walk up and plant a bomb in the wheel well.
april ann April 22, 2014 at 01:30 pm
I agree with B. Dub 100%! How was this kid able to scale a fence and just walk right over to theRead More plane? TSA: for all the harassing you do in the terminal...you ain't all that!! As far as the kid being a runaway..maybe he does face some serious abuse issues at home. He's damn lucky to be alive. But, I raised three boys, and a 16 year old boy can runaway for any collage of reasons. My kids never ran away but, I'm wondering if the fact that the plane was going to HAWAII has anything to do with it. It sounds a little compulsive to me. CPA need good follow up on this. Thank you lucky stars kid!
