YOUR THOUGHTS: Lockheed Martin Severs Ties With Boy Scouts

The Boy Scouts' decision to ban gay scout leaders and atheist members is not compatible with Lockheed Martin's beliefs, the defense contractor says.

A Marietta defense contractor has decided to end its relationship with the Boy Scouts of America due to the Scouts' positions on gays and atheists.

Lockheed Martin told the Marietta Daily Journal that they would no longer provide support for the scouting organization because its ban on gay scout leaders and atheist members do not align with their beliefs.

As a result of the decision, the Boy Scouts will no longer receive monetary donations from Lockheed Martin, and Scouts will no longer take part in company-sanctioned activities like tours of the plant.

This year, Lockheed Martin's Marietta plant and a company giving fund donated $55,000 to the Scouts, the MDJ reports.

This is only the latest controversy involving the Boy Scouts and homosexuality; when the Scouts decided to allow gay members over the summer, the Roswell Street Baptist Church severed ties with the organization.

Do you agree with Lockheed Martin's decision to sever official ties with the Boy Scouts of America over their decision to exclude gay scout leaders and atheist members? Tell us in the comments!
