The Kell High School girls basketball team didn't have long to enjoy its No. 1 ranking.
The day after being voted at the top of the Class AAAAA polls, the Lady Longhorns were shocked by Stephenson on Tuesday in an 60-51 loss in the first round of the Georgia High School Association state tournament.
Kell, which was also playing at home, was playing without injured star Caliya Robinson. The Lady Longhorns finished the season with a 22-3 record.
Also on Tuesday, the Sprayberry girls fell in their Class AAAAA first round game by a 59-56 score at Southwest DeKalb.
According to a Score Atlanta summary of the game, the Lady Yellow Jackets got 28 points from Neena Carter, but couldn't make good on a one-point halftime lead.
The Sprayberry boys begin state tournament play on Wednesday at home in a game against Tucker that starts at 7 p.m.
Also at 7 p.m., the Pope boys, also in Class AAAAA, play at Stephenson.
