Lassiter Gets New Softball Coach

Jason Campbell comes from Hillgrove and inherits the defending Region 5AAAA champions.

's dominant girls softball program has a new leader. 

Jason Campbell, the first coach at West Cobb's Hillgrove High School, has been hired to succeed Scott Kelly, according to The Marietta Daily Journal. 

Campbell's Hillgrove team reached the Georgia High School Association Class AAAAA semifinals and finished third in the GACA Coaches Poll in 2011.

Kelly coached Lassiter softball for 11 seasons, as the Lady Trojans transitioned from slow-pitch rules to the fastpitch format. Lassiter won the 2007 state fastpitch championship and won five region titles under Kelly, including the 2011 season. 

Lassiter compiled a record of 24-10 and reached the second round of the Class AAAAA playoffs last season.

Kelly had been doing double-duty as Lassiter's head baseball and softball coach the last three seasons. He remains in his baseball position for the Trojans, who were 19-12 this spring.
