Lassiter Football Begins Region Play

The Trojans, Kell and Sprayberry all will be playing at home on Friday.

It's too early for homecoming, but this weekend most East Cobb and Northeast Cobb high school football teams will be playing in friendly confines.

Only Walton and The Walker School have to travel on Friday as region play gets underway for some teams.

After upsetting North Cobb last week, Walton (1-2) starts its Region 5-AAAAAA schedule at Woodstock (1-2).

In the same region, Lassiter (1-2) returns home to play Cherokee (2-1) after losing to Kell last weekend. Wheeler (2-1) also is looking to snap a losing streak at home against Etowah (3-0).

Before the game, Wheeler will honor its newest Hall of Fame class, including all-time winningest coach Jeff Hollis and mid-1970s running back Steve Romine.

Teams in Region 7B-AAAAA are technically in non-region mode, as they meet teams from nearby Region 7A-AAAAA.

Kell (3-0) moved up to a No. 3 ranking in the Class 5A after beating Lassiter. On Friday, the Longhorns will be home to Creekview (1-1).

Two of Kell's East Cobb-area rivals are still searching for their first wins, and will be at home. Sprayberry (0-3) plays host to Forsyth Central (0-3) after being off last week.

Pope (0-3) has been blown out in all three games, and will entertain Northview (1-1).

The Walker School (2-1) visits Mt. Zion of Carrollton (1-1) in a non-region game in Class A.

All games will start at 7:30 p.m.
