Lassiter Faces Top-Seeded Marietta in Basketball Semifinals

The latest news about Northeast Cobb school basketball and wrestling.

Basketball

Lassiter High School defeated fifth-seeded Woodstock 71-66 in the quarterfinal round of the Region 5AAAAA tournament at Marietta Garden on Wednesday and earned a second-straight trip to the state tournament.

Fourth-seeded Lassiter High School (12-13) challenges top-seeded tournament host Marietta on Friday in the semifinals for a place in the region championship.

Wrestling

Returning state-placers include Sprayberry High School’s Thomas Cook and Lassiter’s Paul Pelletier and Scott Marmoll.

Marmoll (160 pounds) won a sectional title last week. He placed second in their respective weight classes last season and is among the favorites to win state titles in the Class AAAAA competition.

Joining in the Class AAAA field is Kell High School (eight qualifiers) and Sprayberry (two).

Class AAAA’s 152-pound weight class should be one of the more competitive classes with Kell’s Steven Summey and Sprayberry’s Thomas Cook vying for the crown.

Kell’s Chris Gaines won the Cobb County title. He beat Pope's Trevor Stevens for the Region 5AAAA championship, but Stevens got revenge at last week’s sectional. The two will likely face a rematch in the state finals.

In the Class AAAAA field Lassiter will have five wrestlers competing.
