Kell Holds On to Down Lassiter

The Longhorns prevailed in Friday's Northeast Cobb rivalry game.

The best team in the East Cobb area this season may be the Kell Longhorns, ranked No. 3 in Class 5A, and who led their rivalry game at home for most of Friday night.

Jay Moxey ran for two touchdowns and intercepted two passes for Kell (3-0), and needed his final touchdown late in the fourth quarter to hold off a comeback by the Trojans. The Longhorns play host to Creekview next week.

Lassiter is now 1-2 and is at home next week against Cherokee.

Walton 28, North Cobb 13

In upsetting North Cobb, ranked No. 4 in Class 6A, for its first win of the season, the Walton Raiders may have found answers to some other pressing questions.

Including who might step in to the role left by star running back Tyren Jones, now at Alabama. Walton got 214 yards and three touchdowns from K.K. Brooks.

Walton, playing in Raider Valley for the first time this season, is now 1-2 but has to go back on the road for the next two games, at Woodstock and Cherokee.

Also Friday night:

  • Wheeler's comeback against Langston Hughes fell short, as the Wildcats (2-1) lost for the first time by a 37-28 score in their first home game of the season. Wheeler, which trailed 27-7 at halftime, stays at home next week against Etowah.
  • The Walker School also lost for the first time in a 42-7 setback at Trion. The Wolverines (1-2) visit Mt. Zion of Carrollton next week.
  • Pope remains winless after a 41-7 loss at Etowah. The Greyhounds (0-3), who are giving up an average of 54 points a game, return home next week to face Northview.
