Kell Graduate Travels with All-Star Team to Oklahoma

Parker Madden made the bus trip from Georgia to Oklahoma to play in the Heartland Baseball Classic this week.

Team Georgia will begin play at the Heartland Baseball Classic in Norman, Okla. Tuesday in defense of its 2010 title. Parker Madden, of , will play in center field for the state’s all-star team.

Madden was selected to the team after leading Kell with a .567 batting average and 40 runs batted in this season. In addition to being named Kell's Most Valuable Player, Madden was also named the GHSA Region 5-AAAA Player of the Year, named to the Georgia Dugout Club's All-Tournament Team and selected to numerous county and all-star lists.

High school all-star teams from seven states -- Arkansas, Ohio, Maryland, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona and Georgia – and Canada will compete in this week-long tournament that will be spread among three Norman-area high schools.

The tournament will feature six-game pool play and a one-game playoff for each team. It will also include a free, one-day youth clinic during the week.

Play will begin for Team Georgia on Tuesday when it faces Ohio to open the tournament at noon.

Team Georgia will then play a doubleheader Wednesday, starting with Oklahoma and then against Canada, will compete against Arizona on Thursday and then another doubleheader on Friday, against Arkansas and Maryland.

After pool play ends Friday the playoff schedule will be set for Saturday. The seventh-place game will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the fifth-place game at noon, the third-place game at 3 p.m. and the championship at 6 p.m.

Team Georgia consists of 20 high school graduating seniors and four coaches from the state.
