Kell Football Reaches State Quarterfinals

The Longhorns will play Warner Robins next week.

The unbeaten Kell High School football team will take that perfect record into the Class AAAAA quarterfinals next week.

The Longhorns led Mays only by a 10-9 score at halftime Friday, but got two touchdowns early in the third quarter to pull away to a 26-15 win.

Kell, which is 12-0 on the season and is ranked No. 2, next faces 8th-ranked Warner Robins, which is 11-1.

It's the first quarterfinal appearance since 2010 for Kell, which was the only East Cobb-area team to advance out of the first round.

The MDJ reported that since Kell and Warner Robins are both No. 1 seeds meeting each other they required a coin flip, and that both coaches were planning to meet along Interstate 75 halfway between their schools to do that.

According to the Kell football Twitter account Saturday morning, Kell won the coin flip and will be playing at home in a game starting next Friday, Nov. 29, at 7:30 p.m.

The game is expected to be a sellout.
