Former Lassiter, Sprayberry Players Drafted

Major League Baseball completed its first-year draft over the weekend.

Two college baseball players who starred at Northeast Cobb high schools were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft over the weekend.

Lassiter High School graduate Stephen Janas, a pitcher at Kennesaw State, was chosen by the Atlanta Braves in the 6th Round.

According to The Marietta Daily Journal, Janas and the Braves are nearing a contract agreement.

Former Sprayberry High School shortstop Jared Breen, a senior at Belmont University in Nashville, was taken in the 28th round by the Baltimore Orioles.

Several other former East Cobb-area prep standouts were drafted, as reported by the MDJ. They are:

  • Wheeler: Evan Mitchell (Cincinnati Reds); Sam Bragg (Oakland Athletics); Sam Agnew-Wieland (New York Yankees);
  • Pope: Will Kendall (Pittsburgh Pirates);
  • Walton: Stephen Wrenn (Atlanta Braves).

They all were drafted in middle-to-later rounds. Wrenn, an outfielder was the only current high school player chosen. He will be attending the University of Georgia.
