App Aids in Finding Rides for Super Bowl Sunday

If you're planning to watch Super Bowl XLVI at a Northeast Cobb sports bar or friend's house, check out this app.

The 46th Super Bowl will take place on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Whether you're planning to watch the game from a sports bar or a friend's house, you need to know about the smartphone app provided by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety that helps you find a ride home with the swipe of a finger.

The Drive Sober, Georgia app also will provide users with information about drinking and driving. The app can be downloaded for Android and iPhone, and a simulation is available here.Β 

According to a news release from the Cobb County Police Department,Β the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism last year reported two to three times more people died in alcohol-related vehicle crashes over the winter holidays compared to periods during the rest of the year.

A standard drink is 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine, or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits. There is no moderate drinking guideline for youth.
