University of Georgia President Michael Adams is expected today to announce his retirement in 2013.

The Michael Adams era is coming to an end at UGA.

As Athens Patch is reporting, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and other media outlets have learned that Adams as the University of Georgia president.

June 30, 2013, is the reported end date for Adams, which will be just after his 16th anniversary as the leader of .

What will be Michael Adams' legacy at UGA?

His official biography notes that he has overseen more than $1 billion worth of construction at the Athens campus, has seen the student body grow from 29,000 to 35,000 students, and has secured a consistent spot for UGA among the 20 highest-ranked public research universities in the nation.

He defeated Georgia Tech in a fight before the state regents to bring an engineering college to campus.

He also is one of the nation’s longest-serving university presidents, despite a high-profile clash with Dawg legend Vince Dooley in 2003, a battle with the UGA Foundation, a few scandals in the athletic department and controversy over sexual harassment complaints against faculty, the AJC said.
