School Calendar Proposals Increase

The Cobb school board was presented nine different calendars on Wednesday.

Sorting through nine calendar proposals for the 2013-14 school year will occupy a good bit of the Cobb Board of Education's time for the next couple of weeks.

That's how many different proposals were presented during Wednesday's work session. The board is expected to vote at its business meeting on Oct. 25, but the job of whittling down that list has become more complicated.

Board member David Banks and Superintendent Michael Hinojosa detailed their calendars prior to the work session.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, board member Alison Bartlett also has submitted a proposal (see attached PDF), as has a calendar committee created last year at the behest of Hinojosa, who said during the meeting he has no preference.

Here's a thought... Why not put it back out online and let the community vote? Only this time, maybe the Cobb Co. BOE should side with the majority not the minority in their decision for a calendar.

Kim, Do you have faith in a survey where one response per person was requested? Presuming your answer is yes, then tell us your faith in the last survey where more than 14,000 teachers responded, yet the district has roughly 7,000 to 8,000 teachers.

They put it online and ask for a vote, they did not honor it. Maybe they should have thought it through before they put it online for a vote, but they didn't and they should honor it or come up with another way of getting the voters opinions. Wait, I said thought, I forgot I was talking about the school board. We will take care of it the next time they run for election.
