PSAT Testing On the Horizon for High Schools

Sophomores are required to take the test, but freshman and juniors may also opt-in by paying a small fee.

Freshmen and juniors at Cobb County high schools including , and will be given the opportunity to takeΒ theΒ Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) on Oct. 17.

Although sophomores must take the test, it is a good opportunity for freshmen to see what the PSAT, and by extension, the SAT experience will include. Juniors who take the test are eligible for National Merit Scholarships based on their performance.

All test-takers will get back results showing how they compare to their peers nationwide in the PSAT, which gives students who are struggling in a specific subject area time to improve their skills before taking the SAT as part of the college admission process.

Below are the deadlines and fees for freshmen and juniors interested in taking the PSAT in Northeast Cobb high schools.

Sprayberry

  • Freshmen and juniors must submit a $14.00 check or cash payment to the counseling office no later than Sept. 21.

Lassiter

  • Registration for non-sophomores lasts from Sept. 12 to Oct. 10 in the counseling office. Students must pay the $14.00 fee with exact change or a check written out to "Lassiter." There will be no extensions given after the Oct. 10 deadline.

Kell

  • Kell Juniors may take the PSAT by submitting a $15.00 payment to Maureen Drago, school registrar, in the guidance office.
