Lasso a Cure at McCleskey’s McWalk

On Friday, McCleskey Middle School will participate in Lasso a Cure, a daylong walk and field day with carnivallike games to raise funds and awareness for Relay for Life.

Lasso a Cure McWalk begins at with an opening ceremony and a grand walk of students around the field. Banners displaying the names of loved ones will remind the participants of cancer's impact, while the beautiful outdoor setting will keep everyone actively engaged in the walk and games.

Participants will include Superintendent Michael Hinojosa, Chief of Staff Cheryl Hungerford and Board of Education member Kathleen Angelucci.

, , , Menchies and are providing games, prizes and coupons for the raffle.

Lasso a Cure is sponsored and run by the National Junior Honor Society at to raise both funds and awareness for Relay for Life. , McCleskey’s Partner in Education, and students from McCleskey’s feeder high schools, and , are also helping with the event. 

"Lasso a Cure is completely organized and run by the students of NJHS at McCleskey Middle School," said Kathy Albritton, media specialist at McCleskey. "NJHS members have been raising money and awareness for Relay for Life throughout the year from bake sales and hat days to pay for an obstacle course which will be part of the games."

The obstacle course is an inflatable with tunnels and slides where two students at a time compete to win. Two other inflatables, a moonwalk and a batting competition game, will also be there. Other games include a cupcake walk, a three-legged race, a sack race, a tug of war, Hula Hoop and jump rope competitions, and football. Many events are free, while some require tickets, which can either be earned by walking a lap or winning a game or can be purchased for 50 cents.

Students may also join the McCleskey Relay for Life team for $5 and receive a Dragon Relay bracelet and 10 tickets to use for the games or raffle event of the day.

The rain date is Oct. 28.
