NE Cobb SPLOST IV Priorities Announced

Sales tax collections for renovations at Lassiter High School and Kincaid Elementary School will begin in 2016.

Renovations for Lassiter High School and Kincaid Elementary School will take place toward the end of the upcoming Cobb Education SPLOST IV collection period.

Cobb County School District officials on Wednesday presented to the Board of Education a projected cashflow plan for some of the largest projects in the SPLOST IV, which was passed by voters in March.

The two largest projects in Northeast Cobb are at Lassiter and Kincaid, but all schools in Cobb will be included in the new sales tax collection period, which begins on Jan. 1, 2014 and continues through Dec. 31, 2018.

Lassiter is slated for a $12.7 million gymnasium replacement and Kincaid will receive a permanent classroom addition costing $3.2 million.

According to Chris Ragsdale, the district's deputy superintendent for operational support, collections for the Lassiter project will begin in 2016 ($1.27 million) and continue in 2017 ($5.7 million) and 2018 ($5.7 milion).

The Kincaid collections will take place on a similar schedule, with $327,427 collected in 2016, $1.4 million in 2017 and $1.4 million in 2018.

The first-year collections are generally for design costs.

Collection projections for the other school projects in Northeast Cobb are not yet available.
