Lassiter to Hold School Funding Meeting

Local school officials and state lawmakers will be answing questions Thursday night.

The latest education funding meeting in East Cobb will take place Thursday night at Lassiter High School

The meeting, which is being co-sponsored by the Lassiter High and Mabry Middle School PTSA organizations, takes place from 7:15 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the theatre. Lassiter is located at 2601 Shallowford Road.

The featured speakers at the Q and A event are Lassiter principal Chris Richie, Cobb school board members David Banks and Scott Sweeney, State Sen. Judson Hill and State Reps. John Carson and Ed Setzler.

East Cobb parents and others behind efforts to press the Georgia legislature for more school funding will be gathering at the state Capitol on Monday, Jan. 27.

Megan Richie Wolhfarth of the East Cobb-based FACE It Cobb organization sent word Wednesday that more than 150 people have sent RSVPs to become part of the Shoestring Campaign event between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. that day.

It's a joint effort between FACE It Cobb -- which stands for Funding Awareness Campaign for Education -- and EmpowerEd Georgia Action, a statewide public education advocacy organization.

The speakers include former State Sen. Chuck Clay of Marietta, the legislative liaison for the Cobb County School District.

There's more information on the state Capitol event on the FACE It Cobb Facebook page, and it's also attached here as a PDF.
