East Cobb Students on State Education Advisory Board

Two are from Lassiter High School and another is from Pope High School.

Jake Montalbano and Tyler Boone of Lassiter High School and Jordan Hale of Pope High School have been selected to participate in the 2013-14 Georgia Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council

This year, they will learn about the legislative process and how it relates to education in Georgia. Students are selected to be a Representative, Senator, Lobbyist, or State Leader for the mock Legislature.

Here's the full list of students released this week by Georgia School Superintendent John Barge.

During these Student Advisory Council meetings, students will address real issues facing educators, students, and the state as a whole. They will be provided with real world problems and asked to come up with solutions and then put it through the legislative process.

Students have been asked to do a little research on what some of the issues are concerning our state. A couple of suggested ideas are state budget, common core, PARCC assessments, and digital learning.

The students will vote to elect a mock Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Speaker of the House, and State School Superintendent. Students put together a thirty-second campaign commercial on why they are the best candidate for the job, and then vote.

The first official meeting will be on Sept. 27.
