Atlanta Resident Starts Petition To Remove Superintendent Davis

Molly Read Woo started the online effort late Sunday night.

An Atlanta resident has started an online campaign to remove APS Superintendent Dr. Erroll Davis.

Late Sunday night, Molly Read Woo, a regular Patch Local Voices contributor, sent a petition to each member of the Atlanta School Board, asking them to find a new superintendent instead of renewing Davis' contract.

Its committee of the Whole meeting occurs at 2:30 pm, followed by a community meeting at 6 pm and its legislative meeting at 7 pm.

"I know this petition may be too late to have an impact, as the board is meeting today and members may have already decided whether or not they will vote to renew Davis' contract," Woo said. "Still, I wanted to make sure they knew how at least one APS parent felt about the issue before going into it today."

Woo said Davis has mismanaged APS resources. "He has a lack of concern and communication with those people who work hard to make our schools the best they can be for every student," she said.

"I am sure we can find a better candidate to lead Atlanta Public Schools through the next couple of years."

This is just a vague attack statement.. Davis came in to clean up the APS cheating scandal mess. Clearly APS was not working for the students before, and at least with Davis APS might work in the future. Davis is a results man, and he might have to ruffle a few feathers, but someone has to make the tough decisions to get APS back on track.

As a resident and parent of APS students, we need and deserve a competent Super. However, Dr. Davis showed his true colors when he ambushed NAHS on a Friday during bus dismissal to remove staff members. What type of leadership style or tactics are those? He is too educated, too much other experience to have handled any school in that manner. He then spent several weeks justifying and changing the story of why the ambush was necessary. He gets paid top dollars to conduct himself in a professional way. He would never have acted this way doing the Board of Regents' business. If he wants to bring APS to a level of professionalism, we need someone with those qualities. Not Dr. Davis! Showed what he was made of: disappointing. He has done all he can do for us, now, find someone with decency and character.
