A 12-house subdivision, an electronic billboard and an outdoor merchandise display are the Northeast Cobb items on the agenda for this morning’s zoning meeting of the .
Alice and John Bostic, operating as Southeast Real Estate Acquisitions, are asking to rezone 5.42 acres on Trickum Road south of Eula Drive from R-20 to R-15 so they can build 12 single-family houses there instead of the nine now allowed.
The two-story houses would be at least 2,400 square feet each and sell for $275,000 to $400,000.
The Cobb County planning staff recommends approval of the proposal under several conditions, including a system of improvements to relieve Trickum Road traffic.
The other two zoning items involved the Canton Road corridor.
Catherine Garner from in the 2400 block of Canton Road is asking for a change to the stipulations placed on Peach State Salvage’s property at 2405 Canton Rd.
When the commissioners allowed a retail business in the renovated commercial site in 2010, they barred outdoor storage. Garner is asking for a change in that zoning condition to allow “limited outdoor display” so she can place pottery, plants and outdoor furniture outside.
The staff did not take a position on that case, other than recommending that the commissioners hold a hearing and make a decision. The same is true for the billboard case.
Clear Channel has a traditional two-sided billboard on property owned by Jerry Tillem at 3205 Canton Rd. but wants to switch to an electronic billboard.
The zoning rules say an electronic billboard must be 500 feet from any residence; this one would be only 478 feet from a house on Hilltop Drive. Bryan Gaylor is seeking a variance on behalf of Clear Channel to allow the billboard.
The zoning hearing was on the agenda for the commissioners last month but was delayed to allow Clear Channel to meet with neighbors.
Zoning agenda items often are withdrawn or postponed at the last minute, so the above issues might not be voted on today.
The zoning meeting starts at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the second-floor boardroom of the at 100 Cherokee St. off Marietta Square.
