Art Place Given Cultural Affairs Award

The Girls Fusion Art Program, a collaboration among The Art Place, Mountain View Arts Alliance and Cobb County Girls Court, addresses the special needs of adolescent girls in the judicial system.

Northeast Cobb's ο»ΏThe Art Place and Mountain View Arts Allianceο»Ώ recently accepted a 2011 State ο»ΏGRPCA Cultural Affairs Program Award for its "Fusion" Cobb County Girls Court Program.

The Girls Fusion Art Program allowed 15 young women to discover that art can be an emotional outlet. They were given this opportunity as an alternative to more negative experiences, such as youth detention centers. Many of the participants commented that they learned patience, learned how to cope with their feelings and learned to express themselves through art. The program was success in helping impact these youth in a critical time in their lives.
