Olens Speaks To Civic Association

The former Cobb commission chairman is the featured guest at Wednesday's East Cobb Civic Association meeting.

Former Cobb commission chairman Sam Olens is returning to his political roots Wednesday. 

Olens, an East Cobb resident who was elected Georgia's Attorney General last November, will be the featured speaker at the East Cobb Civic Association's monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the East Cobb Library, 4880 Lower Roswell Road. 

Olens also is a former president of the influential ECCA, which also was the springboard to electoral office for current East Cobb commissioner Bob Ott.

Gingrey to hold Cobb town hall meeting

U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey will conduct the second of two town hall meetings this week in Kennesaw on Thursday.

The meeting takes place from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m at the in Kennesaw. 

Gingrey, a Marietta Republican, in Cartersville on Monday, discussing health care, the economy, the federal debt, student loans and other topics. 

The town halls come as Gingrey's Congressional seat is expected to be redrawn by the Georgia legislature. While the 11th would keep Marietta and most of north Cobb, it also would gain part of Buckhead. 

In an interview Sunday with The Marietta Daily Journal, Gingrey said he wanted his district to maintain a presence in northwest Georgia, which will not happen if the new map is approved.

Isakson warns of budget cuts

U.S. Sen Johnny Isakson is telling Georgians this month to prepare for brunt of federal budget cuts that are coming in the wake of the Congressional debt ceiling agreement this summer. 

"The public is ready for restraint," said the East Cobb Republican. "Although there are some who always want the guy next door to do the restraining, not themselves, I think this time everyone believes it's significant enough and important enough where they are going to be willing to manage with what cuts come down."

The next Cobb GOP breakfast is next Saturday, Sept. 10, from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Williamson Bros. Bar-B-Q, 1423 Roswell Road, Marietta. The cost is $10 per person.
