Northbound Canton Rd. to Close for 8 Months

The state is replacing the bridge over Cobb Parkway.

Bridgework at Cobb Parkway will close northbound Canton Road out of Marietta toward Northeast Cobb for eight months starting in mid-April, the city announced Wednesday.

Southbound Canton Road into the will remain open.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is paying about $11.2 million to replace the Canton Road and CSX railroad bridges and realign the road.

The road bridge has received low sufficiency ratings on GDOT inspections, Director Dan Conn said. β€œWhile the bridge is not currently dangerous, it is one of the oldest we have in the city and nearing the end of its safe and useful life.”

Tractor-trailers have left their mark on the low-hanging bridge structure, Conn said.

The main northbound detour turns right off Canton Road onto Industrial Park Drive before Cobb Parkway, then turns left onto Cobb Parkway and right onto the Canton Road Connector. See the attached map.

An alternate detour turns right onto Cobb Parkway from Industrial Park Drive, then left onto Allgood Road past the , then left onto Cobb Industrial Drive east of Interstate 75 to get back to Canton Road.
