Georgia Debates Affordable Care Act

John Carson, House District 43, (R-Marietta): "I am completely opposed to the Affordable Care Act."

The Georgia House and Senate Democratic Caucuses held a press conference on Friday to discuss the Democratic state legislators’ support of the Affordable Care Act case.

“We support the Affordable Care Act because it provides new coverage for those locked out of the system or who have been underserved,” said Rep. Pat Gardner. “The new law gives all Americans the tools they need to make informed choices about their health and their families. This health care law should and will represent the needs of all citizens, not just some.”

The Affordable Care Act would aid the workforce, small businesses and senior citizens. For seniors, the law offers prescription drug discounts, options for long-term care, and more. Medicare recipients also qualify for a yearly wellness exam for free.

"I am completely opposed to the Affordable Care Act," Rep. told Northeast Cobb Patch. "It is unconstitutional for the U.S. government to force its citizens to purchase a product or service, in this case, health insurance. I think the bill's name is a misnomer, as it doesn't make health care more affordable.  It only transfers the responsibility of purchasing insurance to employers.  The last thing we need to do in the midst of a recession is create a whole new health care bureaucracy, raise taxes and put more regulations on hiring."

Carson said that as a member of the House Insurance committee and its sub-committee on Health insurance, he will do all he can to slow down or stop this legislation from impacting Georgians.
