Cobb Restaurant Scores Available Soon

County residents will soon be able to access detailed reports about restaurants' health inspections at the Cobb and Douglas County Public Heath website.

Cobb and Douglas Public Health (CDPH) is joining a statewide system that will enable health inspectors to carry portable computer devices to complete inspections then upload them instantly to its website.

"We know that people rely on restaurant scores to make decisions on where to go to eat and our goal is to put that information at their fingertips," said Nadine Walley, Cobb Public Health Director of Communications. "Because we inspect over 1900 restaurants per year, our challenge is keeping our website up-to-date.  The new system will automate that process on our website. Searching for restaurants will essentially be the same.  You can search by zip code, restaurant name, last date reviewed, etc."

Both the agency's and state health department's webpage will list a restaurant's current score, five previous inspection results, and a brief explanation about violations.

The county has been posting restaurant scores online for several years, but the scores were not always updated because the old system required manual reformatting of spreadsheets before uploading to the website.

The county employs 12 full-time field inspectors, according to CDPH.

Restaurants must be inspected for food safety and health standards before opening, 60 days after opening, and then are randomly inspected one to three times per year.

A restaurant is required to post the inspection papers with current score within 15 feet of its entrance.
