Canton Road Bridge Project Begins Wednesday
The bridge will be closed between Sawyer Road and the Cobb Parkway ramp for about a month.
The following information was provided by the office of District 3 Cobb Commissioner JoAnn Birrell:
Canton Road Bridge construction
Beginning Sept. 3, Canton Road between Sawyer Road and the ramp to Cobb Parkway will be closed for approximately 30 days (weather permitting).
The closure is to replace the Canton Road bridge and also the rail road bridge over U.S.41 / SR 3. This project will also realign Industrial Park Drive and Elizabeth Street to make intersection improvements.

Shiloh Road at Shallowford Road Construction
The contractor is not planning to work this weekend, Aug. 31- Sept. 2.
- Shiloh/Shallowford Road from Wade Green Road to Canton Road – Tuesday, Sept. 3 through Friday, Sept. 6. Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. with one lane open while the contractor installs storm drainage, curb & gutter, sidewalk, water main, and utilities.
New Chastain Road Westbound Bridge Replacement
The replacement of the westbound bridge on New Chastain Road over Noonday Creek will result in closing the westbound lanes for four months, or longer, beginning this summer. Westbound traffic will be detoured to the eastbound bridge, which will provide one lane in each direction during construction.
- New Chastain Road over Noonday Creek – Saturday, Aug. 31 through Friday, Sept. 6. Contractor will continue work on the new bridge and the roadway approaches. EXPECT DELAYS
Shallowford Road Sidewalk Construction
The contractor is not planning to work this weekend, Aug. 31- Sept. 2.
- Tanbark Place to Blackwell Road - Tuesday, Sept. 3 through Friday, Sept. 6. Contractor will continue water line, storm drainage installation, and grading for sidewalk.
Steinhauer Road at Rocky Mountain Road Sidewalks
The contractor is not planning to work this weekend, Aug. 31- Sept. 2.
- Shallowford Road to Rocky Mountain Road - Tuesday, Sept. 3 through Friday, Sept. 6. Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with one lane remaining open at all times. Project is substantially complete. Contractor will be working on punchlist items and utility relocations.
Road Resurfacing**
Asphalt paving operations - which include lane closures though one lane will remain open at all times - are **scheduled next week, Tuesday, Sept. 3through Friday, Sept. 6, on the following road: EXPECT DELAYS
• Bells Ferry Road from Cobb Pkwy to I-575 Bridge
** The above scheduled work is subject to change due to weather or construction progress.
