Original Report

Cobb County Animal Control Cindy Ganues, a 30-year animal care specialist with Cobb County Animal Control, has attempted to resolve what she claims is wrongful disciplinary action since fall of last year. The county postponed her Civil Service Board hearing twice. Ganus and supporters are hoping the third time is the charm.

A Letter to the Editor, written by an animal rescue worker, made her story public in November. The letter states, "The current animal shelter leadership has elected to discipline her not just once, but twice, for working during her off hours to save animals from imminent death. The first occurrence resulted in her receiving an eight-hour suspension. The second occurrence resulted in a recommendation for a 40-hour suspension. And who knows what the cost may be for a subsequent "violation"? Loss of a job she's held for over 30 years?"

Northeast Cobb Patch contacted the county for comment. Robert Quigley, Director of Cobb County Communications, would not confirm or deny disciplinary action.

Ganues is appealing a reported 40-hour suspension for removing euthanasia-bound cats from the county shelter during her days off.

The five-member Civil Service Board will hear Ganues’ case Monday 6 p.m. in the County Commissioners' Room, Building A, second floor, at the county government building located at 100 Cherokee St. in Marietta.
