Advance Voting for Aug. 21 Run-Offs This Week

Advance voting for the Aug. 21 runoff election begins Monday and Northeast Cobb Republicans and Democrats both have a reason to head to the polls.

The Republican nomination for Cobb County Chairman is now between incumbent Chairman Tim Lee and former Chairman Bill Byrne. Because neither candidate earned 50 percent plus one vote, the race will be decided in the Aug. 21 primary. No Democrats sought the office, so the candidate who wins the Republican nomination will be the county chairman by default. 

All voters will have to choose the winner of the State Court race between Marsha Lake and Larry Burke. The two finished with the most votes of the four candidates running for the post, but neither garnered the 50 percent plus one majority needed to avoid a runoff.

Registered voters who did not cast a ballot in the July 31 primary are still eligible to vote in the runoff. However, those who did vote in the primary must vote under the same party affiliation in the runoff.

Advance in person is Aug. 13-17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cobb Board of Elections main office at 736 Whitlock Ave. in Marietta and the following satellite locations:
