Warrant: 'Large Scale' Synthetic Drug Operation in Northeast Cobb

The suspect allegedly sold and distributed the drugs from his home and business.

A Northeast Cobb man allegedly ran "a large scale manufacturing and distribution operation for synthetic substances" out of his Tallwood Way home and his Cherokee Street business.

Mohammad Tahir Choudhry, according to an arrest warrant, had numerous chemicals, scales, heat presses, packaging materials, labels and raw synthetic material in the home.

Choudhry, the owner of Loqo Tobacco in Acworth, had been under investigation after he allegedly sold 10 grams worth of synthetic narcotics to an undercover agent with the Marietta-Cobb-Smyrna Narcotics Unit who visited the business on May 22, according to the warrant.

When an undercover agent returned to Loqo Tobacco on July 24, Choudhry's brother allegedly sold an additional 10 grams of the same drug to the agent, according to a warrant for Asif Choudhry of Acworth.

Mohammad Choudhry was arrested just after 6 p.m. Friday at the store on one count each of sale of a schedule I controlled substance, manufacturing of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Asif Choudhry, according to the warrant, saw authorities arrest his brother.

"Accused did knowingly and willfully hinder an ongoing narcotics investigation when the accused observed law enforcement action at his brother's store 'Loqo Tobacco' and immediately went to ... 3799 Tallwood Way ... to retrieve a safe that was later found to contain $29,000," according to Asif Choudhry's warrant. "Said accused later stated that he had been instructed to retrieve this safe containing the US currency if there was ever a 'problem' at the store and he was following those prior instructions from accused Mohammad Choudhry."

Asif Choudhry was arrested Friday night at the intersection of Shallowford and Trickum roads on one count each of sale of a schedule I controlled substance and willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

Both remain in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond.
