Wheeler Students Enter Pretrial Program

Joshua Denning and Evan Wallace, accused of making and throwing chemical bombs, will have their records expunged if they complete the Pretrial Intervention Program in York, SC.

juniors of East Cobb have entered a pretrial diversion program after being arrested in November and charged with three counts of use and possession of a destructive device.

If completed successfully, they will have their records expunged or destroyed.

, SC, and another bomb outside a nearby house just outside the city in unincorporated York County, according to the incident reports from the Clover Police Department and the York Sheriff's Office.

The Pretrial Intervention Program, or PTI, is designed for first-time offenders of nonviolent crimes. This system allows the defendant to be diverted from court and enter into a program consisting of counseling, education, community service work, restitution, drug testing and prison tours.

The goal of this program is to give first-time offenders a second chance. Offenders may participate in this program only one time.

Both boys were charged with two counts of use and possession of a destructive device in the city of Clover and one count of the same charge in the incident outside the city at the empty house. Each count is a felony that carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison, the Clover police said.

Wallace was also charged with a misdemeanor charge of possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. Wallace had two packages of synthetic marijuana in a pants pocket, police reported. Officers also found a glass pipe used to smoke marijuana during a search of the boys' vehicle.

Denning played tennis for Wheeler, and Wallace played baseball for the school.
