Drugs Found Inside Pope Student's Vehicle

A Pope High School student was arrested at the school last Wednesday after authorities found marijuana and another drug inside his vehicle.

Just after 11 a.m. on March 13, Cobb authorities discovered the items during a sweep of classrooms. A dog detected drugs on David Gonzalez's clothing and backpack, according to a criminal warrant.

"We found nothing but his eyes were very red and he wasn't making a lot of sense in his speech," authorities wrote in the warrant. "We ask(ed) him if he had anything in his vehicle that he shouldn't have and he said 'no.' We walked out to the vehicle and we asked if we could search. He said 'yes.' "

Inside the vehicle, authorities said they located a plastic baggy that contained 29, 10-mg pills believed to to be Cyclobenzapeine. They also found a small amount of marijuana.

Gonzalez was booked in the Cobb County jail on charges of possession of a schedule IV controlled substance and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. He was released the next day after posting $3,500 bond.

Cobb County School District spokesman Doug Goodwin said the K-9 unit visit at Pope March 13 was part of "a random, periodic search.

"Sgt. (Mike) Rolfe and his dogs visit schools each day; if they alert, he does investigate."
