Cobb police say an adult male pulled from the Chattahoochee River Sunday evening drowned.

WSB-TV reports that rescue crews responded to a call around 7:30 p.m. after reports that a father and son had entered the river to swim and tube near the Atlanta Road Bridge.

The man and the boy, 6, were part of a larger group, who told Cobb County Swift Water team the youngster had been separated from the group and the father went in to retrieve him.

The team rescued the father, who was not breathing, from the water and performed CPR. Omar Fraire, 25, of Smyrna, was later pronounced dead at Emory Adventist Hospital in Smyrna.

The boy was located down the river with another group and was unharmed and alert according to the news outlet.

Because he had ingested some river water, the boy was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite as a precaution.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 770-499-3945.

The incident came two weeks after a Stone Mountain man drowned in the Chattahoochee River near the Sandy Point National Recreation Area near Akers Drive.
