2 Teens Die in Northeast Cobb Crash

Speeding is believed to be involved in an overnight accident at Sandy Plains Road and Kinjac Drive.

Two teenagers were killed in Northeast Cobb early Sunday morning when the car in which they were riding crashed into a brick sign and caught fire.

Sgt. Dana Pierce of the Cobb Police Department said the victims were Stephen Nolasco, 19, and Matthew Bennett, 18, both of Marietta.

WSB-TV reported Sunday afternoon that Nolasco and Bennett were Sprayberry High School graduates and former soccer players there who were attending Georgia Perimeter College.

The accident occurred around 3:20 a.m. when a silver 2001 Volvo S60 Nolasco was driving northbound on Sandy Plains Road lost control and crossed southbound lanes before slamming into a brick sign at the intersection of Kinjac Drive, according to Pierce.

The car then caught fire, killing both Nolasco and Bennett, he said.
