You Weigh in: Do Sports Offer 'Ideal Environments' for Pedophiles?

Former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky has admitted to showering with students. A former Baltimore Colt describes this as an "American problem" and said organized sports are dangerous for kids. What do you think?

Joe Paterno has been fired. Penn State headlines cover the news. Jerry Sandusky has admitted to showering with young boys, but said he isn't a pedophile.

Then, a historian comes forward and says "He ruined Penn State" without a mention of the impact on the children.

In short: This is a mess.

A former NFL player, Joe Ehrmann, told the Montgomery Village Patch in Maryland that this is an American problem, and not limited to a small college town.

Erhmann also said that youth athletic programs offer "ideal environments for predators to stalk their young victims."

Now it's your turn.

Do you think athletic programs are "ideal environments" for sexual predators?
Do you think this is a one-time instance?

Should parents be more present inorganizations?

I think it's terribly heartbreaking that the historian said "He ruined Penn State" without mentioning those 8 kids.

Every time I hear a reporter talk about "the tragedy" that Penn State is dealing with I want to scream. These folks need to realign their priorities.

See, I hate using the word "scandal" because I felt it eluded to the kids being somewhat responsible. When I think of a "scandal" I think that both parties are at fault.
