Now that 2012 is drawing to a close, it's time to look back at what people using that key search engine Google wanted to know most in 2012.

According to media accounts of Google's year-end Zeitgeist, some items were obvious, such as the death of entertainer Whitney Houston and the tragedy that was Hurricane Sandy.

In the United States, Olympics 2012 and Michael Clarke Duncan ("Green Mile") also showed strong.

Worldwide, Kate Middleton was among the top 10, which should not be surprising. Also, Election 2012 was No. 3 in the U.S.

Images are popular online, and entertainers Justin Bieber and Katy Perry registered among the top 10 photos, according to the Huffington Post.
