How Relevant is the Church in Today's Culture?

As the relevancy of the church appears to be on the decline, some local pastors met recently to discuss this in the wake of such things as the Sandy Hook shooting.

The mass shootings that appear to be on the increase have people searching for answers to this apparent wound in today's culture.

Vice President Joe Biden was called on to head up a task force to find out how to address the problem. Things under consideration include gun violence and how to address it, mental health issues in the country and whether the rampant violence on television and in the movies contributes to these events. Also in the spotlight are the violent games that many children play.

But there are others who say the problem goes much deeper and at its core is the moral decline in today's society and linked to that is the sidelining of the church. A group of pastors met recently in Loganville to address the relevancy of the church in today's society.

"This is in the light of the tragedy in Connecticut," said Bob Farrier, a pastor who recently moved to the area from Florida.

So what do you think? Is the relevancy of the church on the decline and do you think that has any culpability in recent events such as the mass shooting in Connecticut?

When it comes to the world we need to be more traditional in our approach. The world needs a challenge not a good time to sit and laugh. They need to change the way they think not have their egos patted. Me personally to help the community I post scriptures everyday on facebook. I have watched how this has helped the people that follow me to change their behavior. Weather they are not cursing anymore or they don't post nude pictures anymore. The traditional old fashioned gospel still works.

I don't think the sidelining of the church has anything to do with gun violence. If anything, the church has much to do with the increasing poverty in many communities. I have seen churches setup shop on prime real estate in blighted communities and block out potential job creators. Many churches have limited, reduced or even eliminated community outreach programs in favor of prosperity pimping. If the church is really concerned, then they need to open up their doors beyond Sunday with services, counseling and resources. If we abate their taxes, they need to offer the community something in return or else, pay taxes

There are many issues and reasons why the churches are declining in the US culture. No fear of God, liberal views on Gay's, prayers taken out of school, American people are spoiled, selfish, self-centered, the view their rights under the US Constitution or individual state constitutions as the basics of their rights, but they are all fools, God sits on judgment of us all! there are no gay rights with him or gun control rights, nothing but what he commands of us.

Why is the world going around,so to speak knocking on people's doors and taking the censes of "Do you believe that a person should marry the same sex? What type of mess is that?. Then when you get a unfavorable answer you all want to be mad. It's like me going from door to door asking people if they like me or not and then when they say no I want to get mad. Since when is it this important weather being married to the same sex is popular. So the world doesn't like it why did you all ask them in the first place.?
