Funeral for UGA Student from Cobb is Sunday

David Peacock Braun was a Kell High School graduate.

The funeral for a 2011 Kell High School graduate found dead in his dormitory room at the University of Georgia this week will take place on Sunday.

Visitation for the family of David Peacock Braun will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at Marietta Funeral Home, 915 Piedmont Road, with the funeral service to follow there at 4 p.m.

Braun, 21, was a junior at UGA majoring in psychology and computer science and was on an academic scholarship. He played soccer both in the Cobb area and in Athens.

Braun was found Tuesday in his room on the UGA campus in Athens, but the cause of his death is still to be determined after an autopsy.

Braun is survived by his parents, Jon Braun and Harriet Peacock of Marietta, Georgia; his maternal grandmother, Neva Peacock, formerly of Plainfield, Georgia, and currently of Palmetto, Georgia; his paternal grandparents, Arnold and Renée Braun of Brevard, North Carolina; and uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Instead of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Nature Conservancy of Georgia, an organization that buys and preserves land in its natural state. Gifts in Braun's name can be sent to the Nature Conservancy of Georgia, 100 Peachtree Street NW, Suite 2250, Atlanta, GA 30303, or made online at the organization's website.
