The family of the world's oldest woman, Besse Cooper of Monroe, confirmed that she died Tuesday.

Family of Nine Escapes House Fire 

Nine family members are displaced following an early morning fire today in Lilburn that caused extensive damage to their home, according to officials. 

Although the family, including five children, could not return to their home in the 4400 block of Five Forks Trickum Road, there were no injuries reported in the blaze. Read more on Lilburn Patch.

Brookhaven's First Mayor Elected

J. Max Davis became the new city of Brookhaven's first mayor in history on Tuesday night.

Davis defeated Sandy Murray in the mayoral runoff, 66 percent to 34 percent, in a race in which Patch projected the winner at 8:09 pm. Read more on Brookhaven Patch.
