Student Accidentally Shoots Herself at Grady High

A 17-year-old student at Grady High School shot herself in the upper leg Wednesday morning on school grounds, in what police are calling an accidental shooting.

Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal Filming in Tucker 

A movie called "Prisoners" is shooting scenes this week at an industrial complex in Tucker.

Starring in the kidnapping drama are Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Maria Bello, Terrence Howard, and Melissa Leo, among others.

The scenes shooting locally are set in the fictional city of Conyers, Pennsylvania. When Patch visited the set on Tuesday afternoon, actors and crew were working on a scene in which a young couple walks out the front entrance of a police station and is accosted by press photographers. Suspect Arrested in Fatal Hit & Run of Mail Carrier on Martin Luther King Drive

An arrest has been made in the hit and run accident that took the life of Cassandra Head on Feb. 20, as she used the crosswalk on Martin Luther King and Bakers Ferry Rd.

Dacula High Student Reportedly Brings Marijuana-Laced Brownies to School

Several Dacula High School students are facing disciplinary actions after a student brought marijuana-laced brownies to school and shared them with classmates.

According to Jorge Quintana, Director of Media Relations for Gwinnett County Public Schools, a student brought the brownies to school on Feb. 20. Read more on Dacula Patch.

Snellville Duo Stop Man Suspected of Planning Terrorist Attack in Gwinnett

Father and son duo Jerry and Matthew Anderson were recognized during the Feb. 25 Snellville council meeting with a Certificate of Appreciation by the Snellville Police for their help in stopping a suspected shoplifter on Feb. 9. 

Unknown to them at the time, the suspect, Kevin Samuel Lahey, of Norcross, was allegedly planning to attack a government building in Gwinnett County. Read more on Snellville Patch.

New Cities Could Form Their Own School Systems Under Proposed Law 

Dunwoody state Rep. Tom Taylor has introduced House Resolution 486, which would allow newly incorporated cities to form their own local school system.

Dunwoody, Brookhaven, Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Milton and Peachtree Corners all incorporated after Jan. 1, 2005, the timeframe in the House resolution. Read more on Dunwoody Patch.
