A warehouse near the intersection of Shallowford and Canton roads is providing plenty of headaches for its owner after an inflated property value assessment was successfully appealed but the tax bill stayed the same.
Art Bayless' warehouse's value jumped from $620,000 in 2011 to over $1.075 million in 2012. According to The Marietta Daily Journal, Bayless received a tax bill with the inflated valuation and appealed the value of the property. The value was settled at $650,000 but Bayless still got a tax bill pegged at the million dollar plus figure.
“I spent many hours preparing my case, won the case, and a few weeks later I received the old bill without any explanation whatsoever," said Bayless to the MDJ. "All it says is you better pay by Oct. 15 or there will be many charges incurred. And I’m still waiting for an amended bill.”
tax authorities are considering amending the current appeals process in light of this incident.
