Small Business Q&A: Splish Splash Laundromat

Splish Splash Laundromat is a family friendly establishment with a warm environment and surprisingly nice interior.

Cary Lipman bought the site of what is now Splish Splash Laundromat eleven years ago, transforming the disheveled location into a fully operational luxury laundry stop.

Q. What's the hardest thing about being a small business owner in
Northeast Cobb?
A.  The heat. But really, there is no hard thing. Maybe the traffic is not so bad either, but it’s the worst thing I can think of.

Q. What's the best thing about your job?
A. All the people that I meet coming into the laundromat. All the wonderful customers.

Q. What is the best thing about Northeast Cobb?
A.  All the convenient shopping, the stores, and the nightlife.

Q. Why did you choose to open your business in Northeast Cobb?
A. It has nothing really to do with Northeast Cobb specifically, but it’s a good area for a laundromat. I bought the business eleven years ago and fixed it up with new paint, new carpet, new machines, and flatscreen TVs. But this place used to be a dump.

Q. Why did you pick this particular kind of business?
A. I wanted to make money without working.

Q. What are some of the services you offer that people don't know about?
A. There aren’t any surprises here. We have a wash and fold service and coin laundry. They should know about it; the signs are all over the place. People love this place. If you’re going to spend two hours somewhere, you want it to be nice. We attract a lot of families.

Q. What advice can you offer to someone thinking about starting a
small business?
A. Be passionate, and prepare to work endless hours for nothing in the beginning. A lot of people don’t understand what you really have to do. In the beginning, after you pay the bills you end up with the drippings, but eventually the drippings turn into gravy.

Q. Is there anything else you would like our readers to know?
A. This particular laundromat is the nicest, friendliest place to do your laundry. It’s clean, bright and safe. The place is fully attended open to close, so there’s no problem we can’t solve.
