Chiropractor Dale E. Callaway is able to share, in layman's language, a thorough knowledge of the human body. An initial health consultation is free at the , located on Palladian Village Drive in Northeast Cobb.
Callaway, owner and founder of the center, has a degree in business administration and is a certified chiropractic extremity practitioner and certified in other therapy techniques.
"Pain is not normal," Callaway says. "I like the example of going to the dentist. Do you wait until your tooth cavity is unbearable to visit a dentist? No. Most people get regular checkups and find and address cavities before they hurt."
Chiropractic care can prevent a pain in the neck and other discomforts by maintaining a healthy spine.
"My goal is to remove nerve interference for my patients." Callaway says. "We are made of energy. When energy is flowing and balanced, the body's natural state of health is able to express itself."
A free class—"What Is Health? Where Does It Come From?"—is the next educational offering scheduled at the center for this Thursday evening.
The center hosts one other part-time chiropractor, who works as an independent contractor.
Q. What's the best thing about your job?
A. Being able to help people and seeing people improve their health. I like being able to "turn the power back on."
Q. What is the best thing about Northeast Cobb?
A. It's a nice area with nice neighborhoods. It's affluent.
Q. Why did you choose to open your business in Northeast Cobb?
A. I like the property. I wanted to be in a professional services office park. This is close to and only 15 miles from my house in Smyrna.
Q. Why did you pick this kind of business?
A. It is a drug-free profession. Drugs are not the answer for health. Allopathy has its place, but the biggest side effect of chiropractic is good health.
Q. What are some of the services you offer that people may not know about?
A. I offer nutritional consulting, neurological analysis, soft-tissue rehabilitation. I am a certified physical therapist. I also offer applied kinesiology, which is a technique that removes an injury pattern from a patient's brain.
Q. When did you start your business?
A. I worked freelance for 3½ years, and this office has been open since January.
Q. How did your business get started?
A. I wanted a place of my own. I wanted a place that is comfortable, professional, where people can feel at ease.
This is a second career. I worked 24 years in energy research for and Georgia Power. I helped develop secret projects that I am legally unable to talk about. (He laughs.) The kind that I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. (Another laugh.)
Q. Do you have advice for anyone who'd like to start a small business in this area?
A. Do your research. Find a business model and someone who's running the model and make them your mentor. It's kind of like the mentor cloning themselves. Dr. Jerry Hochman is my practice model mentor.
