Bites Nearby: Le Cafe Crepe

Sometimes the most tedious part of dining out is figuring where to dine out. Patch makes it easy every Thursday; we find great restaurants for you. This week: Le Cafe Crepe.

Overview: If you are craving a new dining experience, have a sense of adventure and enjoy a Bohemian atmosphere, you must try Le Cafe Crepe.  Hidden away in a back corner of the Marietta Square- close to the railroads tracks- this wonderfully French restaurant affects all the senses as you walk through the door. From the very purple walls, abstract paintings, French music and candlelight to the really wonderful aromas floating from the kitchen, Le Café Crepe almost makes you feel like you have stepped into another world. (I was surprised at how casual and low key it was, originally thinking French equals formal). If you are ordering a –la-carte, the journey from appetizers through dessert can be pricey and if you are more of a meat-and-potatoes-comfort-food-diner, this is not your place. But if you enjoy all of those intricacies a taster enjoys, such as textures, lightness (or heaviness), seasoning and preparation, the experience is sweet.

The Food: The best way to enjoy Le Café Crepe is to make a reservation for the Saturday Gourmet Night Dinner. Prepared by Chef Alfred Carraz. Specially created dinner menus are posted for the month online. For about $30 per person, the dinner includes appetizer or soup and salad, entrée and dessert. The menu I enjoyed consisted of a savory tomato-basil soup, fresh mixed greens (with their own delicious house dressing), Crêpe au Champignons et Poulet (chicken, florentine and mushrooms), Crêpe aux Fruits de Mer (shrimp and scallops in a seafood sauce) and an Éclair au Chocolat (puff pastry filled chocolate mousse and custard). A good wine list, full bar and specialty coffees are available. For the non-drinker, the vanilla iced tea is excellent.

Good To Know: There are actually several ways to experience Le Café Crepe. This restaurant has created a variety options to fully enjoy the specialties of Chef Alfred.
