Police Arrest Suspect in NE Cobb Burglaries

Among other places, he allegedly broke into two Northeast Cobb churches and Chattahoochee Technical College's Mountain View campus.

An Acworth man has been arrested in connection with multiple burglaries at homes, churches and Chattahoochee Technical College's Mountain View campus.

Alvin George Bloodworth allegedly admitted his involvement in all of the burglaries after leading Cobb police on a high speed chase through a neighborhood on Lullwood Court, according to an arrest warrant.

About noon June 19, officers in two unmarked detective cars and a marked patrol vehicle attempted to conduct a "head on felony stop" on a stolen Honda CRV as it approached Lullwood Court and Hedegrow Drive, police said.

Bloodworth was behind the wheel of the Honda, records show. When he saw police, Bloodworth did not stop. Instead, he allegedly put the Honda in reverse, drove through yards at a "high rate of speed," ran stop signs and ultimately abandoned the vehicle. Bloodworth tried to run away, but police caught him.

In custody, he allegedly told authorities that he received the stolen Honda from a friend in exchange for drugs. He also talked about his involvement in the burglaries, which occurred between June 14 and June 19, police said.

His first target was a home in the 3200 block of Hunterdon Way. According to a warrant, he allegedly waited for the residents to leave before he approached the home on June 14.

"Accused advised that he rang the door bell and no one came to the door," according to the warrant. "Accused advised that he went into the garage and then kicked open the door to gain entry into the house."

That is when a woman inside the home confronted Bloodworth, prompting him to run away from the scene.

The next day, police said Bloodworth forced open a rear door at a home in the 3200 block of Post Oak Tritt.

"I recovered a pillow case full of jewelry and other stolen items inside the stolen vehicle said accused was driving," according to the warrant.

That same day, police said Bloodworth stole a dealer tag from a vehicle at a Kennesaw McDonald's on Cobb Parkway and kicked in the side door at Unity North Atlanta Church on Sandy Plains Road. A laptop and a first aid kit were stolen from the church, according to an arrest warrant.

"The first aid kit marked Unity North Atlanta Church was located in the passenger seat of the Honda CRV he was driving when he fled from police," according to the warrant. Bloodworth allegedly took the first aid kit because he cut his finger, police said.

The burglaries continued on June 16. Surveillance footage from Chatt Tech's Mountain View campus captured Bloodworth throwing a rock through a rear glass door, police said.

"Accused stole a cash box that did not (contain) any money," according to the warrant. "Accused admitted that was him on the video surveillance breaking into the College."

The last incident occurred at Noonday Baptist Church on Canton Road. About 9:45 a.m. June 19, just hours before police caught him, Bloodworth allegedly took a wallet from one of the classrooms in the church, then used stolen credit cards found inside the wallet to purchase $99.50 in cigarettes from a BP gas station, $28.33 worth of merchandise from a Shell gas station, $76.28 worth of merchandise from a Ross department store and $7.68 worth of merchandise from Starbucks.

Bloodworth is in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond on charges that include eight counts of financial card transaction theft, five counts of burglary, two counts of theft by taking and one count each of theft by receiving, fleeing a police officer, running a stop sign, improper backing, willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and driving on a suspended license.

He has a hold on his release out of Fulton County, where he also faces a charge of driving on a suspended license.
