Paula Deen: She's Baaaack! (Should She Be?)

News of Paula Deen's emergence from the underground she was relegated to for racial remarks she made long ago have blown up the social media universe.

Commenters on Good Morning America's Facebook page, among others, have served up a healthy serving of support for Deen, a Georgia native who had been a staple on the Food Network for more than a decade.

Deen's public problems began in June, when it became known that she admitted during a legal deposition that she had used a racial slur.

The Food Network dropped her, and then her publisher, Ballantine Books, did the same.

Good Morning America reports Paula Deen Ventures, which includes Paula Deen Foods and Paula Deen Media, have received between $75 million and $100 million from investment firm Najafi Companies.

What do you think? Is it time for Paula Deen to make her comeback? Tell us in comments below.

Of course she should be. She should have never left (or been dropped). The PC garbage in this country has to come to an end. If it is okay for one group or type of person, then it is okay for all of us. This country is so much worse off now than it has been in recent times, it makes me sick. Please explain why it is okay for the government to "profile" and segregate people into all of the different categories and "sub-groups" that they use to define us. At the same time they use these categories to pit one faction against another. I have my own personal name for DC - Dysfunctionally Committed to our destruction. Remember folks: Divide and conquer; that seems to be their attitude. BOTH repubs and democrats. Vote out ALL of the bums and start over with fresh faces and attitudes. The attitude of actually "Serving" the people instead of making us servants for the government.

Yes, Of course she should be. She did not do anything wrong everyone has freedom of speech get over it! PC is just another word for Communism wake the F@@K America.

While I find Paula Deen's words to be offensive and reinforcing of the southern stereotype, it is her right to say such things. As others have already said on here, the outrage caused by peoples' ugly words and opinions can be a little exaggerated in our culture. However, I hope these same people complaining about the PC police practice what they preach when they are the ones offended by someone else's cruel words or opinions. Freedom of speech, right?

Welcome back you big, beautiful, buttery woman! Big Black has missed ya!! There is a lot of hate in the world. You just keep on doing what you do best!

"PC is just another word for Communism" ...and confusion is just another name for sloppy undisciplined lazy thinking.

Freedom of speech is freedom of recrimination from the government. Her sponsors pulling their support and TV networks canceling her show made a business decision, which they are entirely entitled to make. People who say "what happened to freedom of speech" need to get a little perspective. No government entity came after Paula Deen. If you voice unpopular or socially unacceptable views, your business is likely to suffer. That's business, and has nothing to do with your first amendment rights.

@Brian. Thanks so much for your incisive reflection.
Isley Adams February 13, 2014 at 12:40 PM
@Brian, Well said. I couldn't agree with you more.

Paula Deen has a Constitutional right to speak as she wishes, just as we have the right to support her or not. Considering her racist views, I would expect to find her as a regular commentator on the Fox "News" Channel.
Terry Tucker February 13, 2014 at 02:44 PM
@Brian, well said. If she would've handled her business better, she would never have left. All she had to do: Admit it. Apologize. Stop talking. The deed never is as bad as the cover up (or explanation)

I cut up my home depot card and sent it back to them and told them I was going to Lowes with Paula Dean.
Dan Griffin February 13, 2014 at 03:46 PM
Who's Paula Dean? This article is about Paula Deen.
Isley Adams February 13, 2014 at 04:05 PM
@cathy swanson Did you go with Paula Deen to Lowe's because you agree with her racism or you felt she had been unjustly dropped by Home Depot because of her racism?
electric123 February 13, 2014 at 08:55 PM
Why Not? Let her come back? I see her fans and her style, not what she said or did in the past.

Way to go Dan! I've neever maid a speling errer eether.
Janie February 15, 2014 at 02:17 AM
She should have never been taken off tv and all the other things that happened to her. Clean your plank out of your own eye before cleaning someone elses!! I am very glad she is back.
Billy Jordan February 15, 2014 at 05:32 PM
She could handled it better. I don't see any reason why she should not come back. She didn't break any laws.
