Atlanta Lyric Gets 18 Suzi Award Nominations

The Marietta-based theater company is tied with Lawrenceville's Aurora Theatre receiving 18 nominations, second only to Atlanta's Alliance Theatre who received 22 nominations.

The Atlanta Lyric Theatre was recognized with 18 nominations for the 2012 Suzi Bass Awards.
 
Commonly known as 'The Suzis', the awards honor outstanding achievements in local professional theatre. This year, The Lyric is tied with Lawrenceville's Aurora Theatre receiving 18 nominations, second only to Atlanta's Alliance Theatre who received 22 nominations.
 
The Lyric's "Thoroughly Modern Millie," "Ain't Misbehavin'" and "Gypsy" captured three of the five Suzi nominations for Best Musical.

"Being acknowledged as one of many outstanding theatrical organizations in Atlanta is always an incredible honor," said Brandt Blocker, Managing Artistic Director of Atlanta Lyric Theatre, in a press release.

The Lyric has won several Suzi Awards including Best Musical for the 2010 production of “Hairspray.”
 
The eighth annual Suzis will be awarded Nov. 5 at The Porter Sanford Performing Arts Center in Decatur. 

The awards are named for Suzi Bass, the popular local actress who died of cancer at age 56 in 2002.
