Artist Spotlight—Painter Debbi Brooks

The self-taught artist also is a homemaker, wife to husband Gary and mommy to 9-month-old yellow Labrador retriever Logan.

Debbi Brooks shared with Northeast Cobb Patch what inspires her artistic creations.

Q. When did you discover your artistic ability?

A. I was about six-years-old when I remember starting to paint. I let that talent slide for many years and didn't use it. It was after I had a surgical mishap and almost died I began to paint again and this helped me to heal emotionally and physically.

A. I am inspired by the simple beauty that nature provides. I am an outdoor enthusiast and find it very peaceful to see and explore the works of our creator. I, at times, paint from my imagination.

Q. What kind of paint do you use?

Q. Do you paint only on canvas?

A. My favorite medium is acrylic on canvas. I have used watercolors, fabric paint and glass paint.

Q. Your paintings depict landscapes; do you paint mostly landscapes or various subjects?

A. I generally paint landscapes because the beauty I see in the world is natural. However, I have at times added architecture and people in my paintings.

Q. What is your favorite painting and why?

A. I have to say that is a hard question to answer because I truly love all the paintings I have done. I put so much of myself into a painting that each one represents a mood, feeling, or frame of mind. I like to create a sense of peace within my paintings.

Q. How long have you lived in the community?

A. 12 wonderful years.

Q. What is your background?

A. I am from a small town in Marlborough, CT. My husband and I moved here when he got a job opportunity with Turner Network. I have been in the health care industry for almost 20 years. Due to personal reasons I needed to resign this past year. It has been very difficult to find work. I am continuing to find opportunities to help me grow and learn. I generously support many local charitable organizations such as INSPIRE, the American Kidney Foundation, and the American Red Cross, just to name a few. I also feel strongly that the gifts we are blessed with should be shared with others. I have donated several of my paintings for auction at charitable causes such as St. Jude's Children's Hospital, a local church, and a school fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy.
