And the Band Played On—Despite Stormy Weather

Delta Moon rocks the house with a free concert in Northeast Cobb.

First time visitors and veteran attendees filled the lawn Saturday night for the fifth Summer Stars concert performance of the season, hosted by and the Mountain View Arts Alliance in Northeast Cobb.

The free summer concerts series started in 1992. It has become a popular event for locals and residents from the surrounding area alike.

“Throughout the year, we hold a variety of fundraisers to help support the free concert series, as well as raising money for the MUST Ministries charity,” said Dave Patterson, MVAA board member for 15 years.

John and Terri Callozzo have been attending the free concerts for the past 10 years and, with Delta Moon being one of Mr. Callozzo’s favorite bands, they were eagerly anticipating the night’s performance.

“We first starting coming here with our kids and some close friends but, since we’ve gotten to know so many people here, it just feels like being part of a big family," said Mrs. Callozzo.

Saturday night’s performance was the first for Charles and Shirley Ritchie who decided to make it a “date night” by coming out for the show.

“We only live about a mile down the road and this is the first time we’ve been here," Mrs. Ritchie said. "I saw the sign saying Delta Moon was playing tonight and we decided to give it a try. It’s so nice out here on the lawn.”

Kera Ricketts and Rachel Cangemi from Woodstock, along with their friend Joseph Stover from Roswell, were also enjoying their first time at The Art Place this weekend.

“We really didn’t know about this place until I found out from my iPhone app that Delta Moon was playing here tonight for free. I love Delta Moon so I called some friends and here we are,” Cangemi said.

Heavy rains on Saturday night threatened to end the concert, but with the help of the band, TAP staff members and several attendees they were able to move the concert indoors in just 20 minutes and finish the show.

Time is running out for the 2011 Summer Stars Concert Series. There's only one free performance remaining for this year.

The Etowah Jazz Society is the featured guest Sept. 10, so be sure not to miss this “big band” genre group while spending some quality time with friends and family in the great outdoors.
