Pollen Sufferers Happy When It Rains

Our weeklong allergy nightmare is more or less over.

The pollen count fell below the "extremely high" level this morning for the first time in a week.

The official count from the in Marietta today is 1,009, almost entirely from ash, beech, birch and cedar trees.

That's below the 1,500 particles per cubic meter of air considered "extremely high" for tree pollen and is the first time the pollen count has been below that level since March 15's count of 552.

The count hit 2,979 last Friday and soared to back-to-back all-time records of and as Northeast Cobb became covered in a carpet of yellow grains.

We can thank the , washing away all the grass pollen, almost all the weed pollen, and most, though far from all, of the tree pollen. (Here's from the remaining pollen and surges later this spring.)

We could see an additional half-inch of rain today, the National Weather Service says, so you should be able to breathe freely and enjoy the outdoors this weekend.
