Pet Adoption Day at The Avenue

Entertainment and cultural options happening today in and near Northeast Cobb.

1. Home Depot Kid's Workshop Free How-To Workshops on the first Saturday of every month. You can show up anytime, but allow at least an hour for your project.

When/Where: Home Depot, 3605 Sandy Plains Road. 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Why Go: Kids ages 5 to 12 get to create this month's project: the Home Depot #20 Race Car. In addition to the newly constructed project, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, a certificate, and an achievement pin. How cool is that?

2. Simon Kidgits Club's Dino Days at the Town Center at Cobb Mall for kids who love dinosaurs.

When/Where: Town Center at Cobb; (Upper Level, JCPenney Wing)  400 Ernest W Barrett Pkwy. 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Why Go: Town Center at Cobb wants to take children on a journey back in time to explore the prehistoric world of dinosaurs. Families are invited to participate in an afternoon full of learning and excitement at Dino Days! The afternoon will include a variety of prehistoric inspired activities that are sure to lead to a dino-mite time.

3. Looking for a new best friend? Stop by the Pet Adoption Day at the Avenue of East Cobb on Saturday.

Looking for a volunteering opportunity? Angels Among Us Pet Rescue needs volunteers. Volunteering to help animals is a fun activity to do with your kids. Foster homes, transportation and leash holders are needed. If you'd like to help, stop by and introduce yourself, or e-mail: 0305Avenue@angelsrescue.org for more information.

When/Where: The Avenue, East Cobb from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Why Go: You and the family are ready to commit years to the care and nurturing of a pet, or you want to volunteer.

Pricing: Free, unless you adopt a pet.

4. Mt. Zion United Methodist Church is having workshops for adults, a magician and children's activities, and in the evening a churchwide banquet on Saturday.

When/Where: 1770 Johnson Ferry Road. 9 a.m. Workshops for Adults held in the Upper Level classrooms.  Children’s Activities for ages 5-12 will be held in the Youth Center.

6 p.m. is the churchwide Banquet in the Gym.  The speaker will be Dr. Stephen M. Dodson, Previous North Georgia Conference Pastor

Why Go: 1770 Johnson Ferry Road.

Pricing: Free for the workshops, however, call 770-971-1465 regarding costs associated with the churchwide Banquet.

5. Born Again Blessings Consignment Sale.

When/Where: Cobb Civic Center located at 548 S. Marietta Pkwy. 9 a.m. - noon.

Why Go: You want quality items in great condition for less than you'd pay at department stores. Born Again Blessings is a twice-annual children’s consignment sale featuring childrens and maternity clothing, shoes, toys, nursery items, baby equipment, furniture and much more.

Pricing: Free admission. If you buy something it is cash or check only.
